# Usage Limits

## What's Limited

### Conversations

The number of conversations you can have per month. Each conversation is a separate chat thread within a project.

### Messages per Conversation

How many messages you can send within a single conversation.

### Master Documents

The number of documents you can generate per month across all conversations.

### File Storage

Total storage space for uploaded files across all projects.

### Projects

The number of active projects you can maintain simultaneously.

## Checking Your Usage

1. Go to **Settings** → **Usage**
2. See your current period's consumption:
   * Conversations used / total
   * Documents generated / total
   * Storage used / total
   * Billing period reset date

## What Happens at the Limit

When you reach a usage limit:

* **Conversations** - You can't start new conversations until the next billing period. Existing conversations remain accessible and readable.
* **Documents** - You can't generate new Master Documents. Existing documents remain accessible.
* **Storage** - You can't upload new files. Existing files remain available.

You'll see a notification when you're approaching your limits (at 80% usage).

## Managing Your Usage

### If you're running out of conversations

* Use follow-ups instead of starting new conversations (they don't count as new)
* Consolidate related questions into fewer, richer conversations
* Consider upgrading to a higher plan

### If you're running out of documents

* Generate documents strategically - use Distill for quick captures, save full documents for important outputs
* One conversation can generate multiple documents, but each counts against your limit

### If you're running out of storage

* Remove files from projects where they're no longer needed
* Upload smaller, more relevant excerpts instead of full documents
* Archive old projects to free up space

## Usage Reset

Usage counters reset at the start of each billing period (monthly). Unused quota doesn't roll over to the next month.

## Tips

* Follow-up messages within an existing conversation don't start a new conversation - they're part of the same one
* Generating multiple Master Documents from the same conversation counts as multiple documents
* File uploads count toward storage even if you don't reference them in conversations
* If you consistently hit limits, upgrading is more cost-effective than restricting your usage
